Since I last wrote..

So finally I pursued myself to blog… finally ..

A lot has happened since I last wrote here… and should be … it seems like decades since i wrote.. don’t know why.. but I wasn’t sure that I had things to share… nothing like changes were not happening.. but somehow.. somewhere .. I never got that urge to sit down and share them…

Till something ‘real’ good happen… okie I am not jumping directly to the good part… lets make it a bit of everything… a sweet-sour curry…

To start with , since I last wrote, I’ve;

1. Been on a holiday to coastal karnataka, western ghats, the ‘shahiyadri’ mountain range, Shringeri matth (Holy shrine of Sri Adi shankaracharya) .. and all this done in a whirl-wind single trip… amazing isn’t it.. beaches, valleys, islands, dense forests, shrine… all in same trip.

2. On professional side, been moved from one BU to other.. and guess what, even promoted :)   .. now now .. who doesn’t enjoys promotion… a few extra bugs are never a trouble…

3. Wrote amazing essays for NUS… at least my reviewers very really impressed with my out-of-box, out-of-fashion style.. and so were the NUS guys (I guess)… and then I dropped my plan  for NUS. :) yeah .. this is me… freckle minded restless soul…

4. Finally the good part of it, got an interview call from XLRI for the GMP program.  hurry!!!!!  After applying, I knew I’ll not get an interview call… why, coz I don’t qualify in both basic requirements (I don’t have 5 years of experience, I am a guy with 4 yrs 8 months of experience and i got a pathetic 650) .. but out of the blue… I get this interview call… guess XLRI guys are just like me… unpredictable…. :) and I am loving it :D

So, you might see some posts about my ‘work’ on XLRI interview prep… bear with me :D

P.S.: NUS 2009 applicants, any queries about essays are welcome. Post your queries here, I am not saying i’ll immediately reply… but you’ll get your answers…

Ding.. with a difference

another ding… but the case here is a bit different. The college didn’t ‘ding’ed me… rather it was my time to return the favor :)

I got an interview invite from SP Jain (SPJCM to be precise), for the GMBA program held in Dubai and S’pore. Somehow it never excited me.. it was my fall back option anyways..  but it came as the first call !!!

Was not sure what to do.. started preparing for the case study/GD/PI.. but had a splinter of doubt in back of my mind… “do I really want to do an MBA from SPJCM… was this what i was looking for?” but couldn’t get the answer… then I did what no one should ever do when in doubt.. I consulted my friends :)

But jokes apart, this time I knew whom to ask and that really helped me to reach to a decision. With nearly 5 years of experience under my belt, an executive mgmt degree from IIM C , I can think of something better than SPJCM. No doubt, its a good college, but its not for me. I mean… ok lets confess it… i filled the SPJCM form in desperation.. after the bad gmat score sank in, arousing a typhoon of insecurity and helplessness in me.. I wanted a save heaven for me..

Quoting Deepak “This MBA would be your last education… so do it in class.. they all teach you the same, but its the brand that matters the most and I’ll prefer wearing a better one even if comes a bit late to me” …. terse words, but yet so precise and so true..

So, I am not going to SPJCM selection process.. and I don’t feel that I am doing something that I’ll regret …  after all its my life!!

the cliffhanger

I am still around.. with all gmat stuff, project releases, bugs and customer issues cornering me.. wanted a break desperately.. and got one eventually.. broke my foot [:)] .. nevertheless office still called SOS and had to perform my ‘duties’ and ‘step up’ on the occasion…

anyhow things have moved a lot since i last wrote.. i took a break, went home to meet family.. celebrated diwali .. enjoyed some real good home made food and sweets.. and cursed the necessity of coming back to b’lore..

On the apps front, a lot have changed here as well.. with the financial meltdown and the worldwide whirlwind, i needed to ‘critically evaluate’ my to-be apps and ‘arrive’ on a achievable list of colleges. Finance being the major factor, and job market being the catalyst of the process. So the ambitious list was cut short to a few, achievable colleges, but all in Asia.

Cut the crap… i’ve applied to XLRI GMP program (no essays, no recos needed) and SP jain GMBA (again, no recos, no essays). Currently working on NUS essays.

Utilized the much needed break to start reading again.. which i left for reading verbal and quant. Started with Inheritance series by Christopher Poloni (already first 2 books are down, progressing on 3rd one), finished John Grisham’s ‘The Rainmaker’ and started CK Prahlad’s ‘Fortune @ Bottom of Pyramid’. Office is cool these days.. but this is just the peace before the Storm.

So.. I am back … will keep jotting my progress with my mba apps and other lil things woven around it and my life.. Break is over!

still around…

I am there… around somewhere… since my adventures with GMAT, the weekends have been a rollercoster ride… lot has happened in mere 10 days or so. Let me share it;

1. Drive to Shimoga, Karnataka. (around 270 kms from Bangalore), was fun as it was a evening-to-night drive, raining and vipers not working. :)

1.1. A trip to India’s tallest waterfalls, jog falls and a visit down to the base of the waterfalls. Trust me it was worth the effort.

2. Back to b’lore and mundane work after such an exciting journey, 4 days @ office and then a minor accident and I nearly broke my foot (ended up with twisted foot, 4 days of complete bed rest coupled with bandage for 4 weeks…  rocking ;) isn’t it.

3. Ok, on to applications and MBA. Starting with Said. as usual I don’t have transcripts with me :( need to go to my university  (and thats the pain point). Anyhow starting with other information and essays (yeah, need to do it someday).

4. Talked to a senior for recommendation and as i thought, He agreed. So one down, need to get two more. Thinking of getting one from college (IIM calcutta). May be, that would add some glitters to my ah-so-pathetic IIM(Indian, IT, Male) profile.

But, I am back to blogsphere… and would be around… no more astalavista baby!
